The Albanese and Minns Labor Governments are investing $1.4m in vital upgrades at the intersection of Parker Street and Stafford Street in Penrith to improve safety and traffic flow for the area.

The upgrades will make the intersection safer by reducing risky vehicle movements and helping prevent right-turn queues extending into adjacent lanes on Parker Street.

At the moment, over 35,000 vehicles travel through Parker Street daily.

The project is funded through the $518 million Albanese and Minns Labor Government’s Road Safety Program launched in 2024 to deliver targeted infrastructure upgrades that improve safety and help reduce crashes on roads across the state.

The project will close the central median on Parker Street at Stafford Street, removing right-turn and straight-through movements to and from Stafford Street to improve safety.

Right-turn bays on Parker Street southbound into Jamison Road and northbound into Derby Street will be extended, with additional works including median extensions, drainage upgrades, pavement improvements, and new line marking and signage.

Once the work is complete, the following permanent traffic changes will apply at the Parker Street and Stafford Street intersection:

·         Stafford Street will become a left-in, left out intersection only

·         Right turns into and out Stafford Street at Parker Street will no longer be permitted

·         Through movements on Stafford Street across Parker Street will no longer be permitted

Transport for NSW are planning to commence these works later this year and we will keep the community informed prior to work commencing on site.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2027.
