The Hon. Yasmin Catley MP, NSW Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, visited Penrith last night to take part in a vital Community Safety Forum, bringing together residents, law enforcement, and local organisations for an evening of meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
Held in the heart of Penrith, the forum was an opportunity for the community to raise concerns, ask questions, and hear directly from key leaders working to improve safety across the Penrith community.
Joining Minister Catley on the panel was Superintendent King from the Nepean Police Area Command, who provided local insights and updates on community policing strategies. A robust Q&A session allowed community members to engage directly with the panel, voicing ideas and concerns around safety, youth engagement, crime prevention, and emergency preparedness.
The event was attended by a range of community organisations and stakeholders, all working towards a safer and more inclusive Penrith. Their contributions added depth and perspective to the evening’s discussions.
The forum reaffirmed the commitment of the NSW Government and local police to collaborate closely with the Penrith community in delivering safer neighbourhoods.
Member for Penrith Karen McKeown OAM said:
"It was fantastic to welcome Minister Catley to Penrith for such an important conversation. Community safety is a shared responsibility, and forums like this ensure our residents have a voice in shaping local solutions."
"I’m proud to see Penrith leading the way in community-led discussions around safety. Open, honest dialogue between government, police, and residents is key to building trust and delivering real outcomes."
"Our government remains committed to listening to our communities and supporting the work of our local police. Last night’s forum was another step forward in ensuring Penrith continues to be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place for all."
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley said:
"Community safety is at the heart of everything we do. Forums like this give us the chance to hear directly from residents about what’s happening on the ground and to work together on solutions that make a real difference."
"The Minns Labor Government is rebuilding the police force after years of neglect. We’ve delivered a historic pay rise for officers, we’re paying recruits to train which has led to a 72 per cent increase in applications and we’re making sure officers can serve closer to home."
"I want to thank Superintendent King, Inspector Aitken and the Nepean Police Area Command for their tireless work. From tackling serious violent crime and trail bike issues to supporting victims of domestic violence, their dedication to keeping Penrith safe is second to none."
"Community safety is a shared effort. We’re backing our police with the resources, training and wellbeing support they need, but we’re also investing in prevention, from youth engagement programs to tougher penalties for those who try to bring harm to our neighbourhoods."
